The story of mbs industry

In 2021, at the heart of the Mulhouse sports medicine center, an unexpected meeting sparked the beginning of a remarkable entrepreneurial journey.

Bassa MAWEM, an elite climber, had just returned from the Tokyo Olympic Games, carrying not only memories of competition but also a serious injury — a ruptured biceps tendon. He was immersed in an intense rehabilitation program. Nearby, Sébastien KUEHN, an engineer driven by a passion for innovation, was undergoing training to become a climbing instructor.

Fate worked out well — a simple conversation by the coffee machine became the catalyst for something extraordinary.

“We have to make climbing accessible to everyone,” Bassa declared with conviction. “I want to see people with disabilities, seniors, and even those who think this sport isn’t for them, be able to climb.”

Those words resonated deeply with Sébastien, whose inventive mind instantly leapt into action. A bold vision was born: to create a machine that could offset body weight and overcome physical limitations, giving everyone the chance to climb freely.

Meanwhile, in Colmar, Mickaël MAWEM, Bassa’s brother, was also connecting with Sébastien at their local climbing gym. Their conversations revolved around working with “sport-health” groups, supporting people with various health conditions — a mission close to Mickaël’s heart. Together, they dreamed up ways to bring climbing to those who had long been left on the sidelines.

When the three men joined forces, an ambitious goal emerged: to help a climber with incomplete quadriplegia reach new heights. They developed an ingenious mechanical system of ropes, pulleys, and counterweights — a crucial breakthrough proving that their dream could become reality.

From that moment, the challenge was crystal clear: to design an innovative machine capable of compensating for physical limitations through assisted weight support. Imagine the “electric bike of climbing” — a revolution for the sport was on the horizon.

And so, MBS INDUSTRY was born, driven by an unwavering ambition: to showcase this groundbreaking innovation at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games and to push the boundaries of inclusion in the world of climbing and beyond.
